Opposition leader Senator Sengezo Tshabangu has dismissed media reports alleging that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) had signaled conditional support for the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Tshabangu said he had not spoken to NewsDay Live or any of its journalists regarding the party’s position on the controversial constitutional amendment proposal. He accused the publication of spreading “falsehoods and malicious information” following an article titled, “CCC’s Tshabangu Signals Conditional Support for CAB3,” published on 27 May 2026.
“Any attribution of statements, positions, or negotiations to me or the party through this publication is baseless and false,” said Tshabangu.
Senator Tshabangu said the CCC remains committede to responsible and fact-based engagement with the media on national issues and would communicate its offical position through designated party channels.
Tshabangu explained that the CCC is still conducting internal consultations and will only announce its official position once the Bill has been formally introduced in Parliament and the relevant parliamentary processes have been completed.
“Our position on the Bill will be placed in the public domain in due course, after the Bill is introduced in Parliament and following the conclusion of ongoing internal consultations,” he said.
He added that Members of Parliament carry a national responsibility when dealing with constitutional matters and should make decisions guided by public consultations and the broader national interest.
The opposition leader also indicated that the party would wait for the report from the relevant parliamentary portfolio committee, which is compiling views gathered during public hearings held across the country.
CAB3 has generated significant public interest in recent months, particularly on issues relating to governance continuity, constitutional reform, and national stability.
Tshabangu urged the public to rely on official party communication channels and to disregard what he described as unfounded reports.
The latest development adds to ongoing national discussions surrounding the proposed constitutional amendments and parliamentary consultations processes.
